From the Pulpit to the Frontline: Seminary Martyrs Redraw the Map of Sacrifice

Hojatoleslam Abbasali Inanloufar, head of the National Organization for the Mobilization of Seminary Professors, Students, and Clerics, has highlighted the decisive role of the clergy in recent events and on the frontlines of defense and clarification, announcing that 35 seminary students and clerics laid down their lives as martyrs during the Ramadan War.

In an interview with the Hawzah News Agency in Tehran, Hojatoleslam Inanloufar reflected on the role of seminary students and clerics throughout the history of the Islamic Revolution, particularly during the 12-day war and the Ramadan War. Quoting the Holy Quran, he stated, "Allah Almighty says regarding the martyrs: 'Do not think of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead. Nay, they are alive, and with their Lord they receive provision.'"

He added that the holy institution of Islamic seminaries, as the core and wellspring producing the values of the Islamic Revolution, has always considered itself duty-bound to safeguard the achievements of the revolution and to offer an accurate narrative of its objectives. This mission, he noted, has been redoubled in the present era following the repeated emphasis placed by the late Leader of the Revolution on the concept of "Jihad of Clarification."

Hojatoleslam Inanloufar explained that during the recent war, the enemies launched not only a military offensive but also an extensive cognitive war aimed at distorting public opinion, diverting the youth from the path of the revolution, and weakening the spirit of resistance. In these critical circumstances, the clergy took to the stage with strength, standing shoulder to shoulder with the people in the streets and public squares. They assumed the duty of clarifying the truth, warning against the dangers of capitulation, and stressing the priority of the Hereafter and dignity over the fleeting days of worldly life.

The head of the Balagh-e Mobin Combined Warfare Taskforce of the Islamic Seminary outlined the record of seminary students and clerics throughout the history of the Islamic Revolution. He stated that the steadfastness of the clergy is an extension of the same tradition that began with the triumph of the revolution and the leadership of the late Imam Khomeini, himself a product of the Islamic seminaries. Today, by preserving internal and external cohesion, the clergy has managed to prevent any deviation from the original goals of the revolution and keeps the guiding light shining brightly for the younger generation.

Announcing the number of martyrs from the recent war and the Ramadan War, Hojatoleslam Inanloufar confirmed that the clerical martyrs of the third imposed war—known as the Ramadan War—total 35 of the finest sons and daughters of the Islamic seminaries. Of this number, 34 were male seminarians and one was a female seminarian.

The head of the national mobilization body for clerics stressed a significant point regarding the diverse academic and leadership levels among the clerical martyrs. The martyrs represented a wide spectrum, ranging from students of religious sciences to fully qualified jurists. Among them were the Supreme Authority, the Martyr Imam Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, who stood at the pinnacle of jurisprudential authority and the high command of the revolution, alongside his dear grandson and other family members; and Hojatoleslam Martyr Sayyid Ismail Khatib, the Minister of Intelligence, who was martyred on the frontlines of defending the foundations of Islam.

He emphasized that many of these martyrs had families and young children. The fact that some were martyred alongside their three- and four-year-old children reveals the depth of their sacrifice and their devotion to the noble school of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). These noble souls demonstrated that to preserve Islam and the Islamic identity of the revolution, they were prepared to forfeit all worldly attachments, even the lives of their most beloved.

Hojatoleslam Inanloufar noted that the primary role of seminarians lies in the arena of the Jihad of Clarification. "Our most important duty, as delineated by the Supreme Leader, is the Jihad of Clarification. We must preserve the spirit of resistance and show that we will never submit to humiliation," he stated.

He asserted, "We do not trade the Hereafter for worldly life. Today, the clergy stands alongside the people in the squares and streets, fulfilling its divine mission. Our principal role is to safeguard the original achievements of the revolution, which are rooted in the movement of Ashura."
